Philip,

I don't know of Fred the Fabricator personally, but there are a lot of very
talented people around Beaufort. Kenny Bock, himself, is very skilled with
metal work. As someone else wrote, he and his father used to build large
steel fishing trawlers at the boatyard. There is also a welding/machine
shop on Highway 70 east of Beaufort that has an excellent reputation. I
cannot recall the name of the fellow who runs that shop, but that may be the
person you are referring to. The last name may be something like "Lindon."

  Thanks all,
Great to hear that such boat yards still exist. You folks have got me
almost looking forward to our haul out.

On a similar note: About ten years ago there was a welder in Beaufort
named Fred. We called him 'Fred the Fabricator' and his work was not only
reasonably priced, but exquisitely done. He made a mast head spinnaker bale
for me that was a work of art. Is he still around? Any contact info?
