Some time ago there was a thread about where to mark the Official Number/Tonnage on a boat that does not have a "main beam".
I recalled being told that the forward side of the forwardmost bulkhead was an acceptable place but could not find the source of my information. Well, today I was cleaning out a box of old records and came across it. During the documentation process of my boat when I launched it in 1981 I received a letter, on USCG Charleston SC letterhead, from D N Jones, Documentation Officer. It was a cover letter enclosed with my Official Number /Net Tonnage award, a blank Certificate of Marking for me to fill out, and a Certificate of Admeasurement. The last paragraph of the cover letter reads: "In case you haven't decided where to mark the vessel (official number & net tonnage), I read that a good place is the space normally used as a forward rope locker."
