Jim,
I built a 37 so am very familiar with CB trunk problems. If it were mine i would have to decide weather to rip it out and build a new one in situ. (involves rebuilding much of the cockpit as well) or drop the board, seal it up and sacrifice the windward ability. If you do not have a mini keel, you would have to build one.

Another option I would consider would be to clean out the trunk as best I could drill holes in the trunk and fill the gaps with epoxy glue and screw the laminates together- then build an insert and bed it in. You would have to build a new thinner center-board - perhaps carbon fiber laminate. Better to rebuild the existing one.

Either way it is a BIG job. I am reminded of the Biblical quote about putting new wine in old skins - so the condition of the rest of the boat would be a deciding factor. For a 20 year old Searunner with very little resale value, pulling the board and sealing the top and bottom of the box and install scuppers in the cockpit would be my choice.
