We live near a lake where eagles hunt regularly and our outside cat has
never been bothered. On the other hand there was a local newspaper story a
few years ago of an eagle that snatched a small dog but the owner beat it
off and the dog was dropped. I've personally seen an eagle eating an osprey
and conversely this spring on Isle a Haut watched eagles and osprey
attacking flocks of black ducks. At one point an osprey and an eagle met
talons first in mid air. The osprey continued on but the eagle landed on the
nearest ledge and sat for 30 minutes befor it slowly flew off.

There is another "America's only true fjord", Somes Sound in Maine, at 44
18.1N 068 18.45W. It ends in Somes Harbor at it's north end, an idyllic
quiet harbor complete with kayakers from the surrounding state park and some
bald eagles.

When we were there we were concerned about the eagles making off with one of
our cats. Can anyone tell us if it was a valid concern? Do eagles pose a
hazard to a domestic cat?
