DO NOT go to the Chesapeake until the middle of September. The weather now
is calm (except for black thunder squalls), hot, muggy, buggy, and hot.

Did I mention windless and hot?

Leave by the end of October when it gets windy and frigid.

Between the middle of September and the end of October the Chesapeake is
heaven on earth.

I suppose there is a similar time in the Spring too.

I would go to Maine immediately and get out of the heat. Maine is one of
the sweetest cruising grounds on Earth in the summertime. Rockland is a
wonderful harbor to start at, large and well protected with friendly people
and lots going on ashore. Head south at the end of August and be in
Gloucester Mass for the schooner races on Labor Day weekend. Then head
south, spend a few days in NYC at the 79th St Boat Basin, then head
directly for Cape May, through its canal, up the Delaware, through the C&D,
and thence six weeks of finest kind cruising meandering down the Chesapeake.

Winter in Beaufort SC.
