The waterfront in Portland is fun. But the anchorage, off Fishermans Point by
the narrow gauge RR, is rolly with swell from the sea. We only stay 2 or three
days.

I would bypass Portland on the northbound and go 12 hours more to Rockland and
the Penobscot Bay area, the jewel in the crown of Maine.

I hope you have radar. Understand that if a target is getting closer and the
bearing doesn't change there will be a collision if nothing changes. If the
bearing keeps changing you are safe. We often use our radar in Maine.

Plan to be in Gloucester Mass for the schooner races on the Labor Day weekend.

Work with the tides at the Cape Cod Canal and New York's East River.

Onset, just south of the Cape Cod Canal is fun. Stay very focused at the
entrance, the currents are fierce.

Newport RI is a huge party town with some of the most fabulous boats you will
ever see.

Stay a few days in NYC at 79th St Boat Basin in the Hudson.

Go up the Delaware and through the C&D canal and then meander down the
Chesapeake from mid-September until the end of October

Howdy, y'all,

We're departing in a few minutes (no internet!) from Fernandina Beach, FL, to
Portland, ME. We won't spend a great deal of time there, working our way south
to stay ahead of the cold, but would very much appreciate suggested itineraries
in that area and south...

Anchor out is our specialty, as we can't afford anything else! :{))
