I already have what I think is all the hardware I need.
A "fan belt" is not enough. To run my 20 KW shaft generator it takes a
five-part v-belt with common back.
There is a 19" five-groove pulley on the shaft.
I would rather use the heavy gear I already have, but I certainly could mount a
motor of the appropriate type and use that. The difficult part would be
getting the electric motor up to speed considering the hundreds of pounds of
metal it has to spin up.
I have a hydraulic get-home set in the project locker, but I want to try to use
the gear I already have in place first.

Subject: Re: [Liveaboard] Get Home Motor/Generator question
Couldn't one buy a 10 hp electric motor, put a pulley on it, and rig it with a
"fan belt?" around the shaft, and a way to adjust the tension to get you home?
Fire up the generator and plug in and yo putt putt home at 3 knots.
