Well sorry,
 I'm only a common sense, self taught shade-tree mechanic. Ain't got no idea 
'bout the terminology.
 I was referring to the shaft with the curved grooves which holds the pinion 
gear and allows it to be pushed into the ring gear by the solenoid, then lets 
the speed of the ring gear (once the engine starts) to push it back again. At 
least if you let up on the starter button...
