Three things come to mind,
 
1. spray some wd 40 on the started bendix spring area
 
2. My Suzuki out board has a seprate 12 wire that activates the bendix, it  
came loose once.
 
3. Once had the wheel with the teeth on it come lose from the motor. Pretty  
rare I would think.
