I strongly agree with Rosalie's recommendation of Shellenberger's
book. I refer to it as the bible of Chesapeake cruising. I do carry a
medium-old version of the Chesapeake Bay Magazine guide as well, but
would definitely go with Shellenberger if I had to choose. The only
advantage of the CBM guide is a greater number of chartlets.
Shellenberger has more information and is a better (in my experience)
navigation guide.

There are quite good chart books from both MapTech (no surprise) and a
local firm called ADC.

Anchoring is easy and widely available throughout the Bay and its
tributaries. As long as you don't anchor in the midst of an
established mooring field (and there aren't that many) no one will
give you any grief. In City of Annapolis waters you are supposed to
let the Annapolis Harbormaster know if you will be anchored for more
than a few days (three I think). There is no charge; they just want
contact information in case they need to reach you for some reason.
Contact the Harbormaster on channel 17.
