Thanks for the feed back. In regards to the ice, no the water stays open except on the coldest days or the calmest parts of the harbors. I wouldn't want to go swimming in it, but it's open. When it does ice over it grinds a bit, but doesn't get too thick.
Juneau stays mostly in the 10's for lows and 20's for highs during the winter.
