I am not sure what is meant by tandem anchoring.

The way I have delt with many hurricanes,
including when Ivan passed directly over, is that
I put out three big anchors, two Bruces and one
Danforth, each on its own rode. I splay them out
in the direction of strongest winds expected.

The result is that *when* a boat drags down on me
I can toss one of the three rodes and swing away
from danger.

The last time this happened the dragging boat
fouled my tossed-off rode though, and began to
swing into me anyway. I had to tie him to my stern
cleats to release pressure from his rodes, pay out
his rodes, dive down and un-foul his anchors from
my rode, then dive and untangle his anchors, and
throw him off my stern, so he could gain momentum
and his anchors caught and held fine then.
It was a lot of work but worth it.

Another time I had to toss one when a large
section of pine tree landed on it.

In all cases I retrieve the anchors and rodes
later. (Of course).

I never use the motor. With my small boat, it just
is not needed.
