Next Public Comment Meeting on Proposed Florida Anchorage Regulations Set For 10/1/08 in Miami * * * *We just received word last night from Captain Dave that the next public comment meeting in regards to the proposed, Florida statewide anchorage and mooring field regulations has been set for tomorrow night (10/1/08) in Miami Florida. For those of you not already familiar with this issue, I've copied a few paragraphs below from an earlier message on this subject: * *What I find really disturbing about all of this is the portion of the proposal that allows municipalities which establish a state approved mooring field to limit anchorage ANYWHERE within their jurisdictional waters to 3 consecutive days, or 10 days within a calendar year. Thus, if, for instance, the city of Sarasota puts a state approved mooring field in place, no-one will be able to anchor for longer than 3 days anywhere between Big Pass and New Pass (at least!). Almost as troubling is the FDEP (Florida of Environmental Protection) 4-day limit on stays within a mooring field, if the field in question does not provide what the FDEP decides are adequate shoreside facilities (waste pump-out, garbage disposal, showers, etc.). For example, stays in the new Naples, Florida mooring field will be limited to 4 days because the FDEP has not approved the city's shoreside support system. THERE IS A REAL DANGER HERE, that anchorage and mooring throughout much of Florida could be uniformly restricted to 3 and 4 day periods. Fortunately, as you will see after reading Captain Lee's message, THERE IS STILL SOMETHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT!
