I also got a letter from another friend on the draft proposal
to allow cities/counties to restrict anchoring in a draft proposal
before the FWC. The section of the draft that covers the anchoring
issue is 327.61. The draft can be found at www.myfwc.com/Docs/
Boating2009.pdf
and the presently noxious section starts on page 24.
Here's a reply my friend received from the FWC when he voiced his
objection:
"Two public workshops have been held on the draft language - Sept. 9
in Clearwater, and today in Miami. It has not been decided if
another workshop will be held, but you may also submit additional
comments, recommendations, and/or solutions to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], which is an email address set up
specifically to take public input on this complex issue. We truly
welcome your comments and would appreciate any suggestions you have.
FYI – FWC staff plan to present the whole anchor/mooring issue to our
Commissioners at their meeting, Dec. 3-4, in Key West. The
Commission will direct us as to what is to be placed in the agency’s
legislative proposals for the 2009 Session. The full agenda for the
Commission meeting has not been finalized yet, but we expect it to be
done in the next couple of weeks. When it is finalized, it will be
posted at the following link: http://myfwc.com/commission/
index.html (at the center of the webpage, under “Commission
Meetings”, you will see “2008 Agendas”; it will be posted there)
Early next month, there will also be a background report posted for
the issue, so you can see the latest information."
If anchoring in Florida waters is important to you, I urge you to
email your comments to the email above.
