It wasn't just cats dogs that Edison electrocuted to line his pockets (I
read that he paid the local children pocket change to deliver neighborhood
pets for his demonstrations).   As time went on he escalated the size of
his victims up to farm animals and finally, as he became more and more
desperate to convince the public as to the worth of his type of
electricity, he executed a live elephant by electrocution.   I suppose he
thought larger animals thrashing and smoking and screaming on the stage
would make more of an impression on his audience.

Yes, he and Ford (whose shotgun toting security thugs murdered several of
Ford's striking auto workers) were buddies.  Their summer homes were (are)
across the street from each other in Ft Myers Florida.
