If you don't mind, I'm curious - what do you have set up for your WiFi
gear? I've got a high-gain external unit, an Alfa AWUS036H (500mW/+27dBm
output -

with a 9dB omnidirectional antenna, and I'm hoping that this will let me
stay in touch for business and personal purposes.

We've just started cruising again (I was in the Caribbean from 1993 to
2000), and I'm very interested in learning about the state of things in
regard to connectivity, and I'd realy appreciate having the benefit of
your experience.

Feel free to get as geeky as you like, by the way - I've been involved
with computers since the 70s, and have a fairly good idea of radio
issues as well. In a past life (late 1980s), I used to work as an
engineer for Hughes Aircraft in their Space Tube division, designing and
building millimeter-wave systems, radar frequencies and up, and was an
electronics tech for years before that.
