Great info - thanks!

Many, many years ago, when I first started cruising, I passed through
Byu-fort (sorta inconvenient about the SC/NC Beauforts, isn't it? Makes
you wish that English had accent marks or something. :) The above is
very similar to what I remember, which is - well, comforting in one
sense, predictable in another, and boggling from yet another
perspective. But I do recall it being a friendly, pleasant place (except
for a large boat, the "Gray Panther", dragging down on me. I rafted the
bugger up to prevent it from slamming into the bridge, and when the
owners came back aboard, they didn't so much as thank me. Some people's
illegitimate children need to learn basic manners...)

That's very different from what I saw just a few years ago. A shame,
that, since I recall the anchorage as being right across from the city
marina, free dockage, a very friendly marina staff (they had a courtesy
shuttle, and didn't mind that I wa anchored out), and a wonderful city.
We'll probably stop there anyway, just to see how things have changed,
but I'll be looking closely at my Skipper Bob's for alternate nearby
anchorages.

Thank you very much, Jim!
