I'm now in Norfolk. I had problems posting my trip on my web site, so
I'm going to relate some experiences I've had on the way up.

I have had a problem with engine temps increasing with the engine
speed. This is the same engine Skip is using the Perkins 4.154. In 8
years I've experienced the same problem. Recently I replaced the heat
exchanger because it had rotted away. I thought that might help. I had
replaced the recirculating pump for another reason. I figured most
everything was OK but I was still suffering from overheating at high
engine speeds. The raw water pump had been replaced in 1998 by the
previous owner so I thought it was OK. I also replaced the impeller in
the raw water pump, but it still was overheating.

While we were in Beautfort, SC. I took off the raw water pump to inspect
the impeller since I hadn't done so before we left and all seemed fine.
I forgot to turn the water back on and ruined the pump and had to order
a new one.

After installing the new one the engine temp came back to normal or
below even at max rpms.

It's been fine in the 50+ hours since. I have no idea why the pump was
faulty since I had replaced the impeller in the past and had not
improved the situation.

Just fyi.

Jim.
