I recently bought a Lowrance version of the Navionics BR24 CW FM radar
along with a compatible Lowrance HDS10 indicator for about $4000. I will
do a more complete writeup later but for now I will say it is good under a
mile, and wonderful at a half mile with no main bang or dead area in the
center of the picture. At the shortest range of 200 ft I can see the front
of the boat, the anchor ball at the bow and the ham ss whip at the stern.

Over a mile it is almost useless. We will have to buy another radar for
use at distances greater than a couple of miles. We don't know whether we
will keep or sell the BR24. Defender refuses to take it back, even in
trade for a more powerful unit.

We may buy a 4KW Lowrance (compatible with the indicator) and switch back
an forth or try to sell the entire setup and get another system.

We are very unhappy with the unit and with Defender. They did not tell the
truth to us on several occasions and now we are stuck with almost useless
pile of gear..
