I liked my old Caribe so much when it just wore out I bought a new one of
same brand and model.

I have also had success with 5200 for patching. I use the quick-cure
version.

The main problem is that it takes two days to set up and I can't use the
dinghy until then. I have tried using contact cement around the edges to
hold on the patch while the 5200 cured but ended up using lots of duct tape
etc to hold the patch in place.

The advantage of contact cement is that you can put the patch on and it
sticks right away but ordinary hardware store contact cement doesn't seem
to hold very well.

On the first dinghy when it was new I used 2-part contact cement I bought
from the Caribe dealer to glue on three handles, two large "name boards"
and various other bits. It worked very well. Preparation is everything
here and we had all the pieces roughed up, cleaned and the places on the
boat all cleaned and masked off before we mixed up the glue.

I have heard of folks putting on fake patches on a new dinghy to discourage
theft.
