The transducer I mounted on my previous boat was (reliable). It was 
for a depth sounder; possibly shooting through an inch or inch and a 
quarter of fiberglass cut down its range a little bit, but the device 
still worked great to upwards of 450 feet (approx 135-140 meters). I 
wasn't too concerned about whether I was running in 450 or 600 or 
6,000 ft -- enough water to stay afloat any way you slice it.
