I posed this question to John, who did our electrical work when we did our
refit:
Hi, John,
Our chartplotter gives signs of tanking, and we may have to rely on
nav-station computer nav program plots as we work our way through some very
sensitive water until (maybe! - yikes!) we send and get back the plotter
from repair. At the moment, the linkups you and Brian did have our input
through the Serial port to our nav programs, and it is dependent on the
chartplotter, feeding it back through the Raymarine computer.
This has been on my to-do list forever, but with the flaking plotter, I'm
especially motivated. I want to move the Serial inputs to the GPS outs so
the programs can see it without the chartplotter having to be on, but the
way it's now wired, there's (my ignorant reading, anyway) a dependency on
the chartplotter to the Serial connections, and the autopilot dependent on
the Serial.
So, I'm wondering if you could guide me as to where I should move both the
serial connection and the autopilot connections to make that happen.
here's the current terminal breakdown ("+" are bridged points)
1: GPS out W, Chartplotter (hereafter RL70) i/o W,
2: GPS out B, RL70 i/o G
3+4: GPS out R, SSB NEMA W, VHF input W, GPS Serial to computer (hereafter
serial) B
5+6: Pilot input B, RL70 i/o B, Serial G, SSB NEMA B, VHF input B
7: Pilot input R, Serial W
Thus, I impute that the pilot is dependent on the G/W from the Serial, which
gets its info (currently) through the RL70, presumed provided from the
Serial B. Can this be rewired such that the pilot gets its info correctly
AND the Serial gets its feed directly?
Thanks.
Anyone here have the answer?
TIA
