George, an 83 pound Golden Retriever, has been welcome as a visitor in West Marine Stores in Annapolis, Norfolk, New Bern, NC and Washington, NC. Unfortunately, we have not observed any store dogs. George was the store dog here in our Washington marina whenever I was out of town - never a problem as long as he is off-leash. Store visitors should be without leashes for safety reasons.
I'm afraid West Marine and "guru" in the same sentence is an oxymoron. They haven't seen a guru in years. In my experience, someone who does not like dogs is someone not worth knowing. [Exception: people who have had a bad experience with a dog in the past, who deserve compassion.] The people who love your dog need to write letters if your store manager won't turn a blind eye. Others need to write letters. Not all dogs are qualified for this "job" so humans should stand up for your unique dog. BTW, Home Depot also welcomes the dogs of customers - on a leash. After all, they already have birds in the store!
