How long ago was that Ben? I have had my boat searched by Officials in St Lucia. First asked me if I had liquor on board, then searched that see if I had any they I didn't not declare.
Heard of another cruisers that was fined 5000 usd when they found a couple of extra bottles on his boat. And How about the French Islands? One young and not too flush fellow was fined heavily for entering their waters with only state registration for his boat, then ordered to leave.
