September is a time of year when there is a lot of unsettled weather in the North Atlantic. Over 9 days there is a high probability that you will encounter gale force winds offshore some of the time, and 9 days is too long a period of time to get accurate forecasts. .Every year there are boats that attempt that long offshore route in the fall months and lose the bet. Personally I'd pick a more conservative route that would allow you to bail out quickly if weather deteriorates.
I'd suggest something like this: Leg 1 - Halifax to Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod. Leg 2 - Provincetown to Block Island Salt Pond (through the Cape Cod Canal). Leg 3 - Depending on the weather outlook, Block Island offshore to Cape May, NJ or inshore west on Long Island Sound and south through NY Harbor and on to Cape May. Leg 4 - Depending on the weather outlook, Cape May offshore to Norfolk, or inshore Delaware Bay to the C&D Canal/Chesapeake Bay. Fair winds and safe sailing, Capt Wayne B _______________________________________________ Liveaboard mailing list [email protected] To adjust your membership settings over the web http://liveaboardonline.com/mailman/listinfo/liveaboard To subscribe send an email to [email protected] To unsubscribe send an email to [email protected] The archives are at http://www.liveaboardonline.com/pipermail/liveaboard/ To search the archives http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected] The Mailman Users Guide can be found here http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman-member/index.html
