To quote my brother, who is an engineer working primarily in engineering design of vibration damping boxes for aircraft electronics, there is an old saying:
"You finally have to shoot the engineers and go into production". I imagine there is a fine line there between 'not good enough' and 'over engineered' that is hard for them to teach execs at the Harvard Business School.
