The easy solution to power cable heating problems is to remove and 
replace the connector, or at the least twist it two or three times every 
week.
This will refresh the connection and prevent high resistance contacts.  My 
last cable, used in this way, lasted me six years. The first several years I 
lived on my boat I went through several cables because I did not use it this 
way.

Once again I used Dragon naturally speaking.
