One way to help make sure that you're not including too much quoted text is to bottom-post (like I'm doing right now) instead of top-posting (where you just add your reply above all the quoted text). I can think of one other list I'm on (off the top of my head) that flat out disallows top-posting. Also, I generally prefer bottom posting because it also allows different chunks of the email to be responded to seperately (like my "Indeed" comment, which was really only included to illustrate this.
