Hi, Skip -

Perhaps I'm being nitpicky, but it seems important to point this out:
rather than a _contradiction_ (which would argue against Steve's point),
you have an _anecdote_ - i.e., a single instance in which a PVC system
was heavily stressed and didn't fail. Steve's point, however, remains
uncontested and (I believe) still correct: in a rigid system, pounding,
etc. will have an impact on the connections. In your carefully-assembled
and relatively-new system, there's still a fair amount of flexibility;
20 years down the road, when the solvents in the PVC have evaporated and
both the pipe and the fittings have become much more brittle,
catastrophic failure will be much, much more likely - and from exactly
the causes that Steve described. Securing that pipe along its run so
that there's no unsupported segments of any significance just hanging
there - i.e., preventing flex from occurring - would be an excellent
idea (assuming that you didn't do that from the start - which, knowing
you, I'm guessing you most likely did.)

None of which is a concern with PEX, as I've mentioned. :)
