Ahoy, Actually, the anchor swivel story was the second one published in ON.
The first, years ago, was a column and a half and just a "Letter to the Editor" describing my discovery that the spare seals I bought when I bought my hydraulic steering gear had a shelf life equal to the "in use" life. When the seals in the hydraulic ram failed underway and I went to replace them the spares fell apart in my hands. My conclusion was to carry no spares but instead replace all the soft parts every ten years. I enjoyed being published, but the shock came in the form of a check for $165! These days they pay $30 per photo and 22 cents/word! And yes, they do like stories about hands-on experiences that might be useful to other sailors. Norm S/V Bandersnatch Lying Julington Creek FL 30 23.8N 081 25.7W Daaaamn. Stardom at last. Now that you're famous (can riches be far behind?), don't forget about us simple folks, will ya? :))) Seriously, Norm - that's pretty cool. ON is one of the few magazines out there that publishes serious professional content, not the fluff that other boating rags put out, so getting published in it is quite a feather for the ol' cap. When I was publishing Linux Gazette, I wasn't consciously trying to emulate ON - but it certainly was aimed at a similar goal of professional, peer-reviewed content. Consciously or not, their style and professionalism certainly influenced my perspective as a publisher. Kudos.
