Ahoy Lee,

We went through this bridge several years ago to complete our
circumnavigation of Manhattan. We did wait a while for some trains before
they let us through that morning.

There are several other bridges, Jan remembers them as being around 30 ft,
so a motor boat should do fine. They require days notice for opening so
they essentially open just for large commercial traffic that need to be
there.

It is a interesting ride seeing the "backyard" of Manhattan.

Pay attention to the tidal currents, they get up to 3 or 4 knots in the East
River but I don't recall the currents in the Harlem River.

Does anyone know if and when this railroad bridge opens? I am helping a
friend bring a displacement hull power boat from Long Island to Ithaca, NY
via Hudson River and Erie Canal.
