Ahh, that's trickier. What I'm talking about would happen far too early to be able to get anything off of the CD, and what you are talking about happens after init has been started. Definitely two separate phases of system startup.
Right. I didn't mean to imply that I was copying anything ;) just that we would be free to wipe the initramfs (though I realize that you'd still have the compressed initramfs image in memory - this would be just getting rid of the unpacked items) which at least buys us back *some* memory.
I think the ideas of copies came from me mentioning the fact that you would still have those programs on the cd if you need them in userspace.
