While you are at it, as a matter of general cleanliness, you might want
to truncate /var/log/{wtmp,btmp} and /root/.bash_history, too. I noticed
history in the last iso I downloaded.

I have not configured legacy PTY's since I started using 2.6. This
should be just fine. With that, you shouldn't have to touch the udev
stuff since it won't try to create the devices.
