I must have misunderstood something here. I assumed that xfce won't work at all without '/tmp/.ICE-unix'. But it looks like I am wrong (for root, it starts perfectly). Sorry for the noise, and please remove /etc/sysconfig/createfiles and /tmp/.ICE-unix then.
