Hi folks,
LiveCD 6.1.1-2
Have a 19" Philips LCD Monitor (190B) newly installed.
why not some 17" or 20" LCD monitor? 19" monitors don't offer better
resolution over 17" and often have worse reaction time. But it's
probably too late to reconsider.
At booting
LiveCD ran;
boot: linux vga=795
Mistake #1: setting vga=... parameter when you are going to use X. Tthe
vga=... value has nothing to do with the mode that the X server sets,
and actually confuses X servers.
After bootup runlevel 3, ran;
# startx
could not start X-server with following warning displayed;
CANNOT DISPLAY THIS VIDEO
MOD, CHANGE COMPUTER DISPLAY
INPUT [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Mistake #2: not telling us the video card model.
Tried 794 and 792 with the same result.
That's expected.
Finally edited /etc/X11/xorg.conf, adding following line on SubSection
"Display";
Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768"
That's probably correct. But LCD monitors work best at their native
resolution, thus, please remove "1024x768".
Re-ran
# startx
X-server started.
Congratulations. Does it start without additional help (i.e.: without
the "Modes" line) if you don't use the vga=... parameter?
