I've seen the same problem reported in ticket #1638.
My test machine is an old 266MHz pentium notebook.
The bootup precess seems normal (as far as I can tell)
until it suddenly just hangs at "Starting init..."
This same machine boots other livecds (Knoppix, Ubuntu, Mepis)
just fine and the same Linux from Scratch LiveCD CD boots up
perfectly on my P4 desktop.
