shell based init")
2a) The modified CD works in qemu.
3) last few lines (running back and forth from room to livingroom =>

That completely rules out the old init as the guilty party. Many thanks
for the confirmation.
Notes:
My machine:
AMD K6 processor
I tried booting it with:
boot:
boot: pci=noacpi
boot: noapic pci=noacpi
Each one seemed to produce the same results
because the last two lines are wrong. Please try:
boot: linux noapic pci=noacpi
boot: linux noapic pci=noacpi mem=64M
