I built an lfs system from 6.1.1-4 and, although I'm thrilled to bits,
I found the environment for working a bit spartan. I want to build
another system to fix things a bit better in my mind and found a hint,
livecd-remastering-howto, that explains how to remaster a livecd after
adding to the original. I followed the instructions but the CD created
would not boot. Now I am wondering if the hint no longer applies to
current lfs versions.
When using mkisofs as part of the procedure to be followed, I used a
volume ID (with -V) different from the one in the 6.1.1-4 livecd. In
trying to boot, it said I did not have the correct CD, flashed some
messages past me and the machine was switched off. I've found
something that looks like the messages that whizzed by in the file
/boot/isolinux/initramfs_data_cpio.gz on the CD and also the volume ID
of the original livecd there as well. This makes me think that I have
the wrong initramfs file.
The hint was for the livecd in the subject and I'm wondering if that
livecd didn't have an initramfs file since there's nothing in the hint
about such a file. Does anyone know if it did? Has anyone used the
hint to create a livecd for an lfs system that uses an initramfs file?
The initramfs file does look for the CD named lfslivecd-x86-6.1.1-4 and
shuts down the computer in the case it is not found, so you can't use a
different label. And please treat the hint as something that doesn't
exist. You are better served by building the entire CD from SVN (and
please note that 6.1.1 is no longer supported), and adding packages that
you like. Yes, it takes 12 hours. If you intend to do so (or just have a
list of missing packages), please mail me.
