And, BTW $(MACHTYPE) didn't work for me on Debian Lenny with 32-bit userspace, 64-bit kernel and 64-bit capable compiler (the default compiler there). Maybe it would be a better idea to hard-code x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu. Currently, I am going through other things that need to be fixed for building from such setup.
