Thanks. However, the remap63 problem appears to be specific to your 
computer. "remap63" works fine both with your image and with the one I 
produced myself with a cracked copy of Hitachi disk manager (the crack 
was needed to remove the "only Hitachi drives are supported" 
limitation). Samsung version didn't allow me to install the overlay.

So indeed, the non-detection of the disk is caused by the IDE controller 
not being a PCI device. I.e., this is done deliberately, when disabling 
by default all drivers that do blind poking of ports. Such drivers cause 
other computers to hand at boot. So "load=ide-generic" is the right 
solution to this problem, and all future CDs will require this (or, if I 
switch to libata, "load=pata-legacy", but I need to add an equivalent of 
remap63 to that configuration first).
