I would like to get that issue solved, and I would prefer to avoid syslinux completely on the image where it has no use - for example by using a patch like the one I proposed. It was however my impression that the preferred solution was a split-up of syslinux to just get rid of the perl dependency. I don't like that, but it would be an improvement.
