Just for reference here is how I modified my /etc/init/tty.conf to bypass the login on a console-only machine: sed -i s/"exec \/sbin\/mingetty $TTY"/"exec \/sbin\/mingetty --autologin root $TTY"/ /etc/init/tty.conf which gives you: #tty.conf stop on runlevel [016] respawn instance $TTY exec /sbin/mingetty --autologin root $TTY On Mon, Nov 15, 2010 at 11:56 AM, Brian C.
