It’s certainly not the most intuitive software around! I kind of loathe it myself.
But you can treat it basically like email threads, on the web UI you should be able to click people’s emails to reply. There’s some magic around it using headers like In-Reply-To and the like and when you reply you need to have the thread title in the subject. I searched for some guides but didn’t really find anything good, I sort of just pieced it together by trial and error. But, welcome!
