Sorry.

In clip-editor, after loading a clip I see left a window showing the 
first frame and right a window showing the last frame of the clip, in 
the middle usually is the player window showing the first frame ready 
for being played.
In my compiled 1.6.11285 neither clicking on the play icon nor pressing 
the p-key starts playing, the middle area is empty. If I click on the 
"separate play back window" it opens showing the first frame but does 
not play either using the play button on bottom of the separate window.

I am using the latest mplayer from motu but troubleshooting says it's 
all okay, and multitrack-editor plays the clip fine.
