The preferences window works properly for me. I tested the external capture and
it works properly for me. One thing I did notice though is that the first time
I tried it part of the terminal window was off screen to the right so lives
added some artifacts to the frames on the right hand side (gray lines). I then
moved the terminal window to where it was all the way on screen and lives
didn't add any artifacts. All this probably isn't an issue but wanted to let
you know since I saw it.

OK, I have just checked in 1286 which enables the new Prefs code for all
(as it was before). If you were having problems before with Prefs, please
download and re-test.
Another thing which needs testing on a variety of machines:
I have rewritten external window capture. So please try this:
- start up a new window (e.g. konsole or xterm)
Tools -> Capture External window
- click on record unlimited, then pick the the window
- after recording a few frames click "q" in the LiVES window
- make sure the grabbed frames are rendered.
