One comment on the test but otherwise LGTM. Speedy turnaround splitting this out, thanks for that. You said that this isn't included in core files, and my reading of https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/8bf22c33e7a172fbc72464f4cc484d23a6b412ba/arch/arm/kernel/ptrace.c confirms that.
