Haha ok. That's me :-) Looks like something about Ubuntu 12.04 is different on Ubuntu 14.04.
I'll install a 12.04 and see what's broken and fix it. BTW - the /bin/ls seems to detect fine on Ubuntu 14.04 and MacOSX. Interesting...
