I've just met with a friend of mine named sirmacik, who is running a
newly-founded Non-Government-Organisation known as Fundacja Wolna Kultura (
http://wolnakultura.pl).
It's main goals are to support opensource-based culture and society:
artists and developers, also to increase the idea of Creative Commons
awerness among the people.
Around April this year, they'll be ready to help us out with:
· collecting and spending funds;
· running accountancy (fully public);
· project management;
· handling the project in terms of hiring developers and keeping everyone
informed.
Also sirmacik and I discussed a few new ways to move the LMMS development
further:
· Writing an open letter (as developers and community members) for Blender
Foundation regarding us needing their help in terms of GUI redesign and
mechanics (they may help us with knowledge and coders!). It also can be a
widely spread public event which could help us gather more publicity
(connected with good press release);
· FWK (Fundacja Wolna Kultura) would help us put the project for Google
Summer of Code (they have proper connections there);
· We discussed handling distributed developers and community conferences
and meeting (also live YouTube streaming is possible);
· Implementing a script language for writing GUI and add-ons - we picked
Python as the best option (Blender devs like it + many FLOSS projects use
it). We also discussed LUA and GUILE as alternatives;
· We talked about dividing the application into Core and Add-Ons - a bit
like Blender does - it could allow users to have lighter of fully-featured
environment in a few clicks;
· sirmacik also has capabilities to help us a lot with marketing and public
relation of the project.
