They have semi-transparent areas to blend into the background with a
3D-like effect of sitting on a hole, but the main body is not translucent.
I've composed the colors to fit the current palette. I don't think a
translucent knob will work, as the background may be anything - sometimes a
texture, sometimes a black hole - it could look very bad in a lot of
different ways if made like this.
Also I think that with simple alpha blending it could be hard to make the
shape of it shine through properly.
We'd need to make sure all plug-ins and windows have a proper texture-less
background. These graphics are in SVG so probably theming them with CSS
will be possible one day.
