You're entirely welcome to do them. Please see the guidelines that are

One thing to remember is that we're trying to maintain a consistent
palette for the UI - thematic consistency is a good design principle and
using a fixed and simple palette helps to achieve that. So I'd only ask
you to constrain your colour choices to the palette, and design them in
a way that fits the overall look of the new UI.

I think there's a couple of good options here. You could use the 140°
green which I've already used for them, but make them more stylized and
maybe add some things like a subtle drop shadow (they don't need to
stand out too much though, just enough that they're clear). Or you could
use the instrument track cyan-ish colour (#77c7d8) as the base colour
instead. Or alternatively, go for a simpler style and just make them
black/dark grey and translucent, this could work as well.
